Now accepting applications for the 2024 season!

Since 1957, Sawbill Canoe Outfitters has provided its customers with high quality outfitting services. Our success, in large part, is due to the wonderful crew members we have had over the years. With their active participation we have developed an atmosphere that promotes excellence in service while treating employees fairly.

Each employee is selected very carefully. You are selected on the basis of experience in canoe country, passion for wilderness, personal optimism, enthusiasm, good personal adjustment, and demonstrated willingness to work. We usually only consider applicants who are 18 and have finished a year of college, or equivalent. You are not hired for a particular job. We reschedule all the jobs on a weekly basis and you are generally able to choose the actual work you do. Inherent to our unique “work credit” system is a strong commitment to trust and cooperation. As a result, very little of the traditional employer/employee relationship is necessary.

We are open for business from May 1 until October 31 each year. We will work around your school schedule, but we are busiest during July and the first three weeks of August and we need some people who can work the early and late season, so your availability is a strong consideration for us, so your dates of availability must be accurate. We have a couple of spots for beginning in April.

Sawbill crew members are paid a  monthly salary plus a potential bonus. We guarantee that you will work full time. Crew members live here at Sawbill. Room and board are provided. Fringe benefits include free canoe trips, flexible working hours, and “pro deals” which are deep discounts on a wide variety of outdoor clothing and equipment.

Sawbill Canoe Outfitters is a fun and rewarding place to work. Contact us if you are interested in more details or have any questions. We are happy to put you in touch with recent Sawbill crew members for their impressions of their time at Sawbill.
